PROFESIONAL EXPERIENCE – ACCOMPLISHMENTS, PROJECTS |
|
1995 – present: Siemens AG, Konstanz, Germany |
|
|
Current projects:
Postal Address Redirection System 2009 – on going (project size: > 200 Mil $)
Responsible with the technical program management: software configuration, installation and integration.
Technologies used: C++, Java, Corba, XML, J2EE, Oracle 10g, Windows XP, Agile + Scrum SDM (Software Development Methods)
Remote Encoding System 2008 – on going (project size: > 100 Mil $)
Responsible with the technical program management: software configuration, installation and integration. An open system using web technologies for all the mail processing activities. The REC system will replace all existing mail sorting systems of the United States Postal System (USPS)!
Technologies used: C++, Java, Corba, XML, J2EE, Oracle 10g, Linux (UNIX), Windows 2003 (64 b), Agile + Scrum SDM (Software Development Methods)
Closed projects:
Solystic Flat System 2006 – 2009 (project size: ~2,5 Mil €)
Responsible with the technical project management. An open system using web technologies for “foreign” flat sorting machines; the reading/coding system is modular and scalable. The connection to other flat sorter machines is achieved via an open interface (CORBA)
Technologies used: C++, Java, Corba, XML, J2EE, Oracle 10g, Linux (UNIX), Windows 2003
Hungary Postal Sorting Hub 2003 – 2008 (project size: ~2 Mil €)
Full mail sorting system project responsability. A system able to sort any type of mail within a defined time frame is an absolute must for the survival of the Postal Services in EU! The Hungarian Post has reached a high return on investment (ROI ) by implementing our solution. Our mail sorting system has achieved one day delivery time in Hungary, compared to one week mail delivery prior to the installation of our system. I lead discussions with the Hungarian post officials, to optimize the coding strategy, in order to complete video coding activities within 2 work shifts instead of 3. Our new solution has increased the productivity with 33% and relieved the coding system of the need for extra storage. While working close with the Hungarian clients, I updated the coding modes and keyboard layout to better accommodate their needs: this customization improved the coding speed with 10%.
Technologies used: C++, Corba, XML, MySQL, Tomcat, Windows 2K
FedEX Parcel Pilot System 2005 – 2007 (project size: ~1.5 Mil €)
Responsible with the technical project management. It is for the first time that our company provided a system for the parcel sorting in the USA; the technical solutions implemented keep the pace with the latest technology developments in hardware and software! I coordinate the software development teams in Europe (Germany and Bulgaria) and in the USA (Texas).
Technologies used: C++, Corba, XML, MySQL, Windows XP
Reading-Coding–Pay per Service 2003 – 2007 (project size: ~500K€)
Responsible with the integration of the WEB components outsourced to India and customization of external software components (“Legato” for key-components redundancy). I have coordinated the software development and delivered the project on time and with 10% under budget thanks to offshore outsourcing.
Brazilian Project for Letter Sorting Machines in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, 1999-2004 (> 500K€) and
Brazilian Project for Letter and Flats Sorting Machines (Porto Alegre/Curitiba/Belo Horizonte - Brazil) 2001 – 2006 (>1 Mil €)
Responsible with the full project life cycle. The Brazilian Post was known for its slowness in delivering the post: thanks to our systems, they achieved a "3 day delivery", have cut costs of their activities and could remain competitive on the regional market. Due to our training and customer support policy, we succeeded to cut the travel costs by 25%. Due to the outsourcing of the customer support activities to Bulgaria, we achieved further cost cuts!
Technologies used: C, UNIX (Solaris), Windows NT, VMS, CCC Harvest.
Rinaldi Expresso Letter System (Milano – Italy) 2000-2001 (project size: 300K€)
Responsible with the project management (software development, activities planning, budgeting, FAT, post-guaranty support and analysis); due to the high productivity and reliability of our sorting system, the customer extended the area of business from Milan to the whole Lombardy and had a 100% raise in their revenue! We worked together with the customer to solve the following problems: the system throughput and the quality of the work done by the operators. Both problems were solved in a very short time through changes in network topology and offering an extra feature to check the work of each individual operator when needed! It brought an extra order for us, and satisfaction to the customer.
The customer was very important to us since they were the first private company to buy our machines.
SDA Parcel Service (Roma/Milano/Bologna Italy) 2000-2004 (~200K€)
Responsible with the whole project life cycle; It was a key project for us since: it addressed the parcel sorting area of business, and it involved 3 different companies from 2 countries. There were different cultures and work ethics that have to work together! The project was a success: due to our systems the client was able to get all Italian market share .
Guernsey Letter System (Guernsey) 2002-2003 (~100K€)
Project management (software development + integration + deployment); since the project was very small, it was very important to stay within the budget and to deliver it on time!
Danish Project for Parcel Sorting, Broendby, Copenhagen - Denmark 1997-1999 (~100K€)
Project management, including software development, integration and deployment.
|
1994 – 1995: Merrill Lynch Japan Co., Tokyo, Japan |
Hands-on leadership and full responsibility of medium to large software applications.
Analyzed, designed, developed, tested and implemented:
Z-Modem connection between two remote computers for data downloading with security checking (SALT scripting language, Windows 3.1); the security of our data flow between Merrill Lynch and the Japanese regulatory body was a very important issue long before the current data security technologies were available!
Several client-server applications for investment banking back office processing (C, Open Client DB, Sybase, X-Vision, Sun sparc stations); I redesigned the company proprietary settlement system to be able to handle a larger volume of trades: 10 times more! At that time it was foreseen that the NIKKEI index would reach such values that could generate a large volume of transactions to be processes by the system!
K-TEK application for financial transactions – Global Stock Loan (C, UNIX, shell scripts, Sybase SQL/SQR); the system was a global stock loan system (Tokyo – London – New York) designed to work around the clock!
Software modules for treasury, finance, regulatory applications (C, UNIX, Sun sparc stations).
Crontab jobs for automatic sequential back office processes (shell scripts).
|
1991 – 1994: Graphica Computer Corporation, Tokyo, Japan |
Management and development work of following projects, including definition and implementation of new, original algorithms:
Layout System for advertisement industry (C,UNIX, inter-process communication via sockets, on Sun and Sumitomo stations); project size: ~ 1 Mil. US$; responsible with the design (algorithms, block diagram), implementation and installation of the applications. It was the main product of the company!
Mitsubishi Color Printer Driver (C, MacOS, Macintosh PC): project size ~100,000 US$; project management and software design. It was a feature for another segment of the PC market: the Apple Macintosh, better represented in Japan than in Europe.
Stand-alone Medical Image Processing System (data input, pre-processing, image enhancement etc.); design and implement the algorithms; C/UNIX/Proprietary Library Functions; Graphica’s Pipeline Image Processing System I10K.
HP-UNIX EISA DR11W Driver for HP Apollo series 9000-720 workstations: design, development and system test. The product was very important for the company since it made possible for the company graphic machines to be sold attached to the HP workstations: it was a significant cost cut, 20%, and made the product more attractive to customers!
Image processing (enhancement, affine transformation, edge and color detection) and pattern recognitions modules (C/UNIX/Intel Assembler Language for I80-860): design, development and unit test.
